This weeks tip on travel is planning around the busy travel seasons. We were asked: Is it a good idea to travel in the off season? The answer to this question is more than simply a yes or no answer. Bill Bailey Travel Club would like to spend some time with you understanding a bit more about travel during the less popular times to your next destination.

Bill Bailey Travel Club Takes A Look At The Off Season For Travel

Traveling in the off season can often save you money, but in some destinations, this may come at a cost to you. Yes, you will avoid the crowds, but sometimes, you will also miss a host of experiences, depending on where you are traveling.

Most destinations have a peak season, shoulder season and off season. What this means to you is that you will have access to all of the most popular sites during a peak season, but if a destination has severe weather changes, you may be left out in the cold during the off season.

Not all destinations around the world offer weather patterns that are conducive to travel year round. Take for example, travel to Alaska. With temperatures in the 50’s to high 70’s in summer, Alaska in the peak season, during the summer months, offers a variety of opportunities to enjoy it’s splendor. Show up 6 months later and you may be snowed in, no access to main roads and nothing to do but sit and stare at a fire. Though the main cities of Alaska are more like you would see anywhere else in the world, Alaska’s wilderness encompasses a vast majority of the area and most travelers tend to avoid the off season here.

However, other destinations have a much less distinct seasonal pattern and for that reason, off season travel may be just what you are looking for. Smaller crowds, cheaper prices and still reasonable weather and activities to enjoy are all reasons that off season travel can be a good idea. Taking into account the differences in the seasons, one may be advised to give travel in the shoulder season a try first before committing to off season travel.

The shoulder season offers reduced prices as well and less crowding in addition. You still have the opportunity to visit many of the popular destinations without the pressures of the peak season traffic and logistics.

So, in answer to your question, off season travel or perhaps shoulder season can be a very nice way to spend a vacation, just do your research first. Most of all, enjoy each vacations ups and downs and make the most of it!
