A European Vacation
Welcome to Europe. Filled with history, beauty, nature and more, a trip to Europe can be the ultimate experience for you and your family. However, if you are not prepared it can also be stressful. Don’t be unprepared, get ready and prepare before you go and you can enjoy the vacation of your dreams without the stress with tips to help from Bill Bailey.
Check out your passport. Not only can you be denied entry for a passport in poor condition, but many countries require that your passport be valid for 3 to 6 months after your arrival. If your passport is in poor shape or if it is going to expire soon, better avoid issues later on by just renewing now.
Let your credit and debit card companies know you will be traveling. Many of these companies watch your accounts for suspicious activity and a charge to your card in a small town in Scotland may seem a bit unusual to them. If this happens, you may find yourself without a card until you contact them. While having someone monitor your card most times can be incredibly helpful, at 10 pm when you are trying to check into a hotel after a long day of traveling, it may far from helpful. Prevent this from happening by simply giving them a heads up, you will be glad you did.
Have photocopies of all important information especially your passport. In case of a lost or stolen passport or credit card, having a photocopy of the pertinent information can help you speed up the process of getting a new one and reducing the chance of becoming a victim of theft.
If you are renting a car, know what you will need to have and the rules of the road. Though most places do not require an international drivers license, there are countries that do. Research your destination and know if this is required. In addition, laws vary from country to country as do speed limits and requirements, it is your job to know the rules of the road before you get behind the wheel, this is your obligation.
Bring the power with you. Though it is relatively simple to find convertors and many tourist destinations offer this option to assist you, it is imperative if you are bringing along things which require chargers you remember that Europe generally uses a different voltage than you may be used to.
Know your phone plan and what options you have. If your phone does not have an international plan, you will want to look into other options including international plans or prepaid international phones to save money.
