William Bailey Travel Reviews the Best Grilled Cheese in the US

Posted on 11.23.15

William Bailey Travel Reviews the Best Grilled Cheese in the USIt is no secret that the majority of us have a love affair with sandwiches, the giant deli counters and the array of sandwich shops is a testament to this love. The one sandwich of our childhood which still stands tall in our adult repertoire, is the grilled cheese. Sometimes we might make them just how our mom did, but there is something deliciously delectable about a decadent grilled cheese that some chefs have dreamed up. These sometimes unique cheesy treats may sometimes be a bit extreme but you can be sure, they will always be decadent. William Bailey Travel invites you to take a closer look at 3 of the best in the US.

Grahamwich in Chicago is one of Graham Elliot Bowles restaurants. Grahamwich is a take-out sandwich joint that serves up some of the best creations between two pieces of bread. This isn’t the white bread with plastic wrapped cheese that was your go to as a kid. The grilled cheese here is on sliced Pullman loaf and is topped with Wisconsin Cheddar, prosciutto, cheese curds and tomato marmalade all melted together for that perfect gooey effect when you bite into it.

The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen in San Francisco is owned by an engineer with degrees from MIT. One taste will be enough to prove however, that she knows more about engineering then any ordinary engineer however. The Mousetrap is one of the favorites that are served here. It is served on artisanal sourdough and topped with cheddar, Havarti and Monterey Jack. This is the perfect combination of creamy and sharp cheeses that melt to perfection.

Roxy’s Grilled Cheese in Boston is serving up some genius grilled cheese sandwiches. As we all know Boston loves their baseball and they pay homage with the Green Muenster, with respect to the Green Monster at Fenway. It comes with Muenster, guacamole and bacon. Only here will mac and cheese not be just a side dish but created into a play on a grilled cheese sandwich. You must try the Mac and Chorizo. Roxy’s is also unique because they don’t grill your sandwiches with the age old butter, but with mayonnaise. It creates a delightful and unique flavor.

Just like us, our palettes have also matured. We still love an old childhood favorite, but we need a more mature choice sometimes. Not that a classic grilled cheese is anything to stick your nose up at, but these are sure to be something to remember.
