William Bailey Travel Reviews the Island of Sardinia

Posted on 01.06.16

William Bailey Travel Reviews the Island of SardiniaThe island of Sardinia has long reigned supreme in the Mediterranean Sea. This isn’t your typical island. It is a wonderful dichotomy of some of the most stunning beaches in the world, unparalleled views, that are then set amongst some of the most interesting structures of history. Find out for yourself what makes Sardinia so amazing as we take you on a journey to this top destination for travel with us.

One of the most popular ways to enjoy Sardinia is on the beaches which you will certainly find no shortage of. In fact, there are 1,200 miles of coastline on Sardinia with beaches that top the list of the best in the world. There are plenty of lagoons to laze about in. Head inland for a refreshing freshwater lake, the only on the island, Lago di Baratz. If you don’t mind the artificial kind, there are 54 man-made lakes that are scattered across the island.

After you have spent some time refreshing your batteries with ample sunshine, get out and explore the interestingly unique structures on Sardinia. These remarkable stone features are from the Bronze Age, roughly 3,000BC and are called Nuraghi. There look like large beehives and are thought to be used as either religious temples or military strongholds. The most famous of these former dwellings is the Nuraxi su Barumini.

As you are already out and about exploring the island, make sure that you make a venture to Sardinia’s national park, Di La Maddalena. It is located on the northern part of the island. From this spectacular vantage point, on a perfectly clear day, you can see the coastline of France’s island Corsica. If you want to see some unspoiled areas of the Mediterranean take a boat to an archipelago right off the coast of the park. This area is completely unsullied and affords you a perfectly peaceful and serene experience just a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the always eventful island.

Sardinia offers the ultimate in experiences in visiting the islands of Italy. You will be fully recharged after basking in the Mediterranean sun on the beach and exploring the ancient structures. With so much to see and do, don’t try to do everything the first time, plan another trip, you will be glad you did!
